Our History

The Center for Human Development was founded as Human Development Services in 1975 when it’s Director, Lee Webster went into private practice with the vision of providing counseling and educational services to the community with a wholistic and Christian frame of reference. This was a pioneering move as there were no other Master’s level counselors in private practice in the area at that time. Lee’s early practice was focused on individual marital and group counseling, training counselors and supplemented by his speaking and corporate training programs in interpersonal relations, wellness and stress management.

The Center became certified as a outpatient Mental Health Clinic by the State of Wisconsin in 1980 when Lee’s wife Barb joined him in practice. Other therapists who shared their vision joined Lee and Barb over the years. The Center was incorporated as the Center for Human Development in 1988 and continued to grow as people sought solid family based counseling. We have been recognized as a quality provider of individual, marital and family counseling services throughout Central Wisconsin.

The Center for Human Development moved its central office to its present location in 2000 and has satellite offices in Marshfield and Stevens Point. Our present staff is licensed in the disciplines, of psychology, social work, counseling, and marriage and family therapy. In addition the Center provides pre-marriage counseling, budget counseling and divorce mediation services. We are an affiliated provider for many health insurance and employee assistance programs. As members of the Chamber of Commerce in each community we are invested in providing quality services to improve the lives of people in our communities.
